The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Mysore City Corporation (MCC) will develop civic amenities in private housing layouts in and around the city.

Private developers have formed more than 100 housing layouts in and around Mysore, but have not provided facilities such as roads, electricity, underground drainage system and water supply, according to Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Mr. Sorake chaired a meeting in this regard with Mysore district-in-charge Minister V. Srinivas Prasad here on Wednesday. Following directions from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a decision has been taken to collect betterment taxes from residents of private layouts.

Stern action would be taken against private developers who failed to provide basic amenities to residents in newly-formed layouts. Action would be taken after obtaining a detailed report from the authorities concerned, Mr. Sorake told presspersons after the meeting.

Water Supply

A decision had been taken to end an agreement with JUSCO, a private firm, for supplying drinking water to Mysore city. The contract with the private firm would expire in December, he said. Instead of multiple agencies, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board would be entrusted with the task of supplying drinking water in Mysore city. Currently, JUSCO has been supplying water to the city and overseeing operation and maintenance of water utilities.

A decision was also taken to clean up the Central Storage Reservoir at Vijayanagar in the city.

“The reservoir is vulnerable for breach any time. Works costing up to Rs. 47 crore will be taken up to prevent it from developing cracks,” Mr. Sorake said.

A comprehensive development plan (CDP) of Mysore would also be readied soon. A decision was taken to form 2,000 housing sites and develop a modern slaughter house costing Rs. 38 crore in Mysore.

A solid waste management plant would be established for processing 200 tonnes of waste.

Currently, there was one plant and it was processing waste, Mr. Sorake said.

The Minister admitted misappropriation of funds under the JNNURM and said dustbins costing Rs. 5 crore were distributed to nearly 1.30 lakh households in the city for segregation of waste.

A report would be obtained from the MCC to initiate action against persons indulged in siphoning of funds, he said.
