Coin exchange event to be held at Palayamkottai
MADURAI: The Tirunelveli district administration along with five banks will hold a special event at Palayamkottai on Thursday to help traders overcome shortage of coins during the Diwali season.
As Diwali is nearing and people are on a shopping spree, shortage of coins has emerged as a major inconvenience for the trading community as well as the public.
Small traders and the public can get coins at the camp to be held at Selvi Marriage Hall from 10am to 5pm.
They can also exchange soiled notes.
Meanwhile, reacting to a demand for holding such a special event in Madurai, R Murugaprabhu, district lead bank manager, said: “Though there is no plan to hold a special event in Madurai, people can collect coins from any banks. We have asked all the banks to keep adequate number of coins ready because there will be huge demand for new coins and currency notes during the Diwali season.”
