'He will be the first EWB-USA board president who is not only a board member, but also a dedicated volunteer, a generous investor and a well-qualified mentor.' Cook said it is an honor being elected to serve as board president.

'The best feeling is that I have the support of all my colleagues, including the younger generation; primarily because they know I have come up through the organization, been a mentor and chapter leader and have traveled on several projects. I'll be the first board president who has done that,' Cook said.

EWB-USA positively impacts people's lives, both in the countries we serve and in educating the next generation of scientists and engineers. I'm passionate about being a voice for culturally aware scientists, engineers, health providers and professionals who care and work collaboratively to solve the world's toughest challenges.' Cook's mentorship role with the EWB-USA University of Washington Chapter (EWB-USA UWS) inspired GeoEngineers Environmental Engineer Claudia De La Via to join the firm right out of school. De La Via said she knows first-hand the dedication Cook has to the mission of EWB-USA.

'I traveled with Dave as part of the EWB-USA UWS Bolivia team in 2009 where he worked as a mentor for the implementation of an irrigation system,' said De La Via. 'Dave had great energy and shared a lot of his knowledge from geology, water supply and project management. He is an excellent ambassador for GeoEngineers and EWB-USA.' With EWB-USA now in its second decade, the board of directors is playing a pivotal role in helping shape the organization's future, from the continued empowerment of global engineers to new partnerships in communities around the world.

'His leadership as board president will further solidify EWB-USA's reputation as an industry leader in international development and global engineering education,' Leslie said.
