BHOPAL: Guna police slapped a fresh case against dreaded criminal Kashmira Jaat, who is running an extortion racket from behind the bars.
Kashmira was arrested in May this year.
The terror of Kashmira can be gauged from the fact that his native village Richeda has turned into a ghost village. Hardly five families live there. "It is a remote village whose population was around 1,000 people.
But most people have migrated to other places. There are several reasons for migration such as if anyone wants to sell property, to pay for a wedding, they find no buyers," Cantonment, police station in charge, APS Parmar told TOI.
"There are around 20 cases against Kashmira Jaat and his kin," Parmar said.
Four people Kashmira Jaat, his brother Ramraja Jaat, Mahipal Singh Jaat and Raviraja Jat were arrested in May this year for demanding Rs 25 lakh from a contractor who was constructing a road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
Two of them, Mahipal and Ravi got out on bail from high court. Subsequently, on October 2, the duo, along with two other accomplices Satyendra Jat and Rajpal Jat, apprehended a worker of the contractor and demanded the same extortion amount of Rs 25 lakh and also pressured him to take back his old complaint, said police.

"During investigation, it was found that Kashmira, who is in jail, planned the extortion bid which was executed by others. Hence, a case has been registered against him as well," Parmar said.
"We have launched a hunt to nab those who are on the run," he said.
Interestingly, brother of Kashmira Jat Ramraja Jat is being elected sarpanch of Richera village for the past two terms, that too without any opposition. "Ramraja is also in prison along with Kashmira," Parmar said.
Sources said that due to the terror of Kashmira, no one contested the sarpanch elections of against his brother.
