Kurosawa classics to be screened

October 15, 2014 11:08 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:00 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Eight films of Akira Kurosawa, Asia’s most celebrated filmmaker, will be showcased at the six-day ‘Kurosawa Film Festival’, which was inaugurated on Tuesday at MM Preview Theatre on Kodambakkam High Road.

While the festival will feature critically acclaimed films of the master filmmaker such as ‘Rashomon’, ‘Seven Samurai’ and ‘Yojimbo’, his less-popular works such as ‘Sanjuro’ and ‘Ikiru’ will also be screened.

E. Thangaraj, general secretary of Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation, said he was happy to be associated with the Consulate General Of Japan for the festival, and requested that Consul General Masanori Nakano arrange for the screening of contemporary Japanese movies next year. “We have all seen classics of Kurosawa and appreciated the artistic flair of his films. But we are out of touch of movies coming out of the Japanese film industry at the moment,” he said.

The festival is jointly organised by the Consulate-General of Japan, Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation, The Japan Foundation and The Madras Film Society.

'The screening of the films, on till October 19, will start at 6 p.m.
