Police forming anti-riot unit

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Following the ongoing protests by Pakistan Tehrik Insaf of Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek of Tahirul Qadri, the Islamabad police have decided to raise a properly trained and equipped Anti-Riot Unit (ARU).

Officials in the police and the interior ministry said yesterday that the law enforcement agencies had been asked to set up the ARU on the pattern of those in place in European countries and the US.

The ministry has approved the hiring of 2,000 personnel for the ARU, officials said, adding that the police were asked to complete the paper work, including the recruitment process, acquisition of equipment and vehicles for the unit.
