A five-member gang brutally murdered a 46-year-old realtor in front of his father at Perumalpattu in Tiruvallur district on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was the cousin of State Minister for Milk and Dairy Development B.V. Ramana.

According to Sevvapet police, the victim Ravi Jayaraman, ran a hardware store on Perumalpattu Main Road along with his father Jayaraman, who is a trader union leader.

The attack took place around 2.45 p.m. when Ravi was standing outside his shop. He was about to leave to a nearby location to discuss a property sale and was talking to his father who was inside the shop. Suddenly, the gang arrived on two motorcycles and hacked him with knives and sickles. As the realtor collapsed on the road, the assailants sped away.

Ravi’s father and by-standers rushed to help but the realtor had suffered severe cut injuries on the head and neck and died on the spot.

A Sevvapet police team reached the spot and carried out a preliminary probe before shifting the body to the Government General Hospital in Tiruvallur for post-mortem examination.

The victim was known to be in a dispute with some people in a nearby village over a property deal. He had recently received a threat letter which he brought to the notice of the local police, sources added.

Two special teams have been formed and a probe is underway to apprehend the assailants.
