Guwahati: On the occasion of AGP’s 30th foundation day, former chief minister and party leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta apologized to the people of Assam for failing to live up to their expectations.
“Over the years, we have realized the mistakes we committed. As people of the state are emotionally involved with us, they had lot of expectations from us. We have failed to live up to their expectations due to various reasons.
I apologize for failing to fulfill your dreams,” Mahanta said while addressing a gathering at Pragjyotika Cultural Centre at Machkhowa on Tuesday.
Mahanta, who was the chief minister of the state for two terms, said it is time to move ahead rectifying the mistakes for the good of regionalism and the state.
AGP, in a bid to rejuvenate the party, has organized a two-day national political convention involving people from different walks of life from Tuesday. The party leadership has invited representatives of various students’ organizations, social organizations, tribal bodies and prominent personalities of the state.
“We have invited representatives from various walks of life to take decisions for the future of the party and state. We will proceed after knowing their views. It will also give us an opportunity to rectify our faults,” said party president Atul Bora.
Bora said people of the state have realized the need of a regional party at this hour of crisis when all national parties are ignoring the state and the region.
The party had re-launched its website a few days ago to interact with its supporters and workers across the globe. The convention also coincides with the concluding ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Assam’s literary icon Lakhsminath Bezboroa.
