Police grope in dark in phase X robbery case
MOHALI: More than 24 hours after robbers struck at a residential area, the police were clueless about the assailants. At least six armed men had barged into a house in Phase X on Monday evening and looted gold and diamond ornaments after beating and holding the family hostage.
Simrat, who lives on the ground floor, said the robbers knocked at the door and when she opened it, they pushed her aside.
They attacked Rupesh, a servant, who was cooking food. They then took Simrat in a room and took away all her jewellery, including gold bangles, chains and rings. The dacoits also held other family members hostage along with Simrat at gunpoint.
Family members later claimed the accused also fired a shot and attacked Simrat with a sharp-edged weapon when she resisted to give her jewellery.
Mohali SP G S Grewal, however, said the accused used toy guns as no bullet shell was recovered yet. "Neither neighbors nor did anyone else hear any gunshot. The accused were migrants," he added.
On August 19, at Phase VI, armed robbers attacked a family, held its members hostage and decamped with jewellery. The police were yet to solve this case too.
