MLA accuses hospital of negligence as his sister dies during treatment
BATHINDA: Bathinda (rural) MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta of SAD (Badal) has accused a private hospital of negligence in treating his sister who died during treatment on October 13. His sister Kulwinder Kaur, 53, remained in coma for a month in the hospital before breathing her last.
Kulwinder's husband Ajaib Singh approached the police complaining of gross negligence by doctors in treating his wife.
Bathinda SP (detective) Swarn Singh Khanna said, "A case of negligence and culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against a doctor and a nurse."
MLA Kotfatta came down heavily on the hospital authorities and alleged, "The hospital is ill-equipped and has appointed junior doctors who are not qualified to handle complex cases. My sister was admitted to the hospital on September 14. It being a Sunday, no doctor was present to treat her. A junior doctor was informed about her condition and he prescribed some injection to the paramedical staff over phone. The moment a nurse administered the injection, my sister lost eyesight and slipped into coma."
Meanwhile, the hospital issued a statement saying that condition of Kulwinder was extremely critical right from the time of admission. "The patient was a known case of stage IV breast cancer with metastasis in liver and bones. She was under the treatment of a senior oncologist and was provided with best medical treatment," the statement mentioned.
