Rain, wind claims 2 lives

Record rainfall accompanied by swift wind claimed two lives in the Sangam City on Tuesday. The incessant rain led to collapse of Attarsuiya police station’s boundary wall and the shade on railway overbridge at Johnstanganj. Besides, several dozens of trees, hoardings and shop sheds too were uprooted resulting in traffic snarls.

Record rainfall accompanied by swift wind claimed two lives in the Sangam City on Tuesday. The incessant rain led to collapse of Attarsuiya police station’s boundary wall and the shade on railway overbridge at Johnstanganj. Besides, several dozens of trees, hoardings and shop sheds too were uprooted resulting in traffic snarls.
The inclement weather plunged around half of the city into darkness.
Late, in the night nearly all sub-stations stopped the transmission for two to four hours due to wind and rain. The supply was restored only on Tuesday at 2pm.
As per reports, Rahul (11) of Chaura village under Kotwali police station of Pratapgarh was killed after the house in which he was sleeping collapsed due to swift wind and rain. Similarly, Renu (18) of Sahumai was killed the mango tree, under which she had sought shelter from the rain, got uprooted and fell on her.
The power scenario turned grim after transmission from 33 KV line in between Minto Park and Power House House substations was stopped due to a fault. Later, a part of the city plunged into darkness after supply from Kasari Masari sub-station followed by Allahpur and 33 KV line of Karelabagh sub-stations was stopped. Kalyani Devi and Katra sub-stations too followed suit following faults in power cables.
Similarly, trees were found to have been uprooted in several parts of the city and sheds of shops were also brought down damaging the property. The trees uprooted on Thornhill Hill Road, Mahatma Gandhi Marg also disrupted the traffic.
