Honda (HMC) Recalls Acura Vehicles for Seat Belt Issue

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC) is recalling 43,000 Acura vehicles in the U.S. due to issues with the front seat belts. Per reports, the front seat belts may not release in temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

The vehicles being recalled are the 2014 Acura RLX sedan and the 2014–2015 Acura MDX crossovers. The company will fix the problem free of cost. Honda is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the faulty seat belts.

Honda, like most automakers, is currently recalling vehicles frequently. Recently, the automaker announced the recall of 6,200 model-year 2015 Fit vehicles sold in the U.S., which may be fitted with A-pillar interior cover designed for vehicles sold in other markets. This may affect the deployment of the side curtain airbag, which raises the risk of injury in case of a crash.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TM) also recalled 690,000 Tacoma pickup trucks on concerns that the leaf springs in the rear suspension system could break due to pressure and rust. If a vehicle is driven in such a situation, the broken particles can come in contact with surrounding vehicle parts, including the fuel tank, and pierce them. This can lead to a fuel leak and even set the vehicle on fire.

General Motors Company (GM) announced several recalls, including 7,598 Chevrolet Caprice police patrol vehicles to address a problem detected in the shifting mechanism. The company also recalled 524,384 Cadillac crossovers and a discontinued Saab SUV to fix loose joints and worn threads, and 89,294 units of the 2013–15 Chevrolet Spark mini car due to a problem in the secondary hood latch striker.

Ford Motor Co. (F) also announced three separate recalls in North America. The automaker recalled 66,000 Escape hybrids of model years 2005 to 2008 and 7,800 Mercury Mariner crossover vehicles of model years 2006 to 2008 to fix a malfunctioning coolant pump. Additionally, Ford announced the recall of around 1,700 F-650 and F-750 pickup trucks of model year 2014 with diesel engines in the U.S. and Canada. The third recall was for 2014 model year Ford Focus sedans and 2015 model year Lincoln MKC crossovers.

Honda currently carries a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell).
