Two arrested for instigating woman’s suicide in Virudhunagar

MADURAI: A man and his brother were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly instigating a young woman to commit suicide in Virudhunagar district.
Police said Mugiladevi (22), daughter of Velusamy of Bharathiar Colony at Ramasamypuram in Virudhunagar district, was a third year arts student at a private institute in the region. Kalaiselvam from the same area allegedly harassed her by passing sexual comments when she went to college.
On Monday, he allegedly told her that he would inform any suitor who came to marry her that he loved her.
The woman, who was apparently disheartened by his comments, allegedly committed suicide by dousing herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze.
The Koomapatti police registered a case based on a complaint from Velusamy and arrested Kalaiselvan and his brother, Karikalvalavan.
