Rajkot City BJP president Bhikha Vasoya had registered a case against Congress leader Tushar Nandani and his associates for allegedly defaming BJP candidate Vijay Rupani by resorting to character assassination. In his complaint lodged with the crime branch, Vasoya accused the Congress leaders of circulating pamphlets in the city that show Rupani in a poor light using derogatory language.

During police investigation, more details are coming out in public in this case.

Congress worker Tushar Nandani had roped in newspaper agent Sanjay Trivedi for distribution of thousands of copies of leaflet with morning newspapers. When police booked Nandani, he offered Rs. 25,000 to Sanjay Trivedi for not giving his name to police.

BJP has asked police to probe Congress MLA Indranil Rajyaguru’s role in this case, as Nandani is close to Rajguru.

Sharing the details of primary investigation, ACP Crime Branch, HR Patel told media persons that primary investigation has revealed Tushar Nandani, Jagabhai Mori and Indranil Rajguru’s involvement in this case.

Patel said Police is working for supporting evidences.

Indranil Rajguru in his reaction said that police has not arrested even the first persons said to be involved in this case, then how come they talk about my involvement?

Police has booked Nandani under various sections of Indian Penal Code including 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place or language), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and 502 (sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter). Sources said that the pamphlet also accuses Rupani of ending the political career of several BJP leaders for his own sake.

BJP fielded Rupani after the seat was vacated by party veteran Vajubhai Vala, who was made Karnataka governor. Congress has fielded its old guard and Kadva Patel leader Jayantibhai Kalaria.
