Madras

Karthi starrer "Madras" has so far done above-average business at the Chennai box office. The film has minted ₹2.82 crore in 17 days, according to Behindwoods.

"Madras" received rave reviews from the critics upon its release. Karthi's performance won accolades with many terming that the film is a comeback of sorts for the actor after facing back-to-back failures.

The film is director Pa Ranjith's second project after "Attakathi." Critics and the audience heaped praises on the director for his impressive script.

"Madras" took decent openings on the first day and has witnessed significant growth in its performance owing to positive word of mouth. With new films having failed to fare well, "Madras" is expected to continue its good run and emerge as a hit in the coming weeks.

Yaan

Jiiva's "Yaan" has witnessed drops in its collections in the second week. The film had a solo release on 2 October and took good openings on the first day due to good pre-release buzz. However, the action entertainer managed to fetch average reviews from the critics and the audience alike.

The film's collections have dropped considerably owing to negative word of mouth. It has collected ₹1.30 crore in 11 days at the Chennai box office. With more new releases set to hit the screens, it is unlikely for Thulasi-Jiiva starrer to pick up in the coming days.

Aranmanai

Sundar C's "Aranmanai" has already emerged as a hit and still continues to perform well. The horror comedy entertainer received good feedback when it hit the screens. Audience seems to have liked the film, which is evident from its performance at the box office.

Despite several new releases, the multi starrer has managed to sustain its momentum at the box office. It has witnessed average theatre occupancy of 65% during the weekend and has collected ₹3.14 crore at the end of the fourth weekend, reported Behindwoods

"Aranmanai" is expected to hold on well until Diwali biggies hit theatres.

Jeeva

Vishnu Vishal's "Jeeva" has turned out to be a safe venture. The film, based on cricket, took average openings, but has managed to hold on to some screens even in its third week. It has raked in over ₹89 lakh in 17 days at the Chennai box office.

New Releases

There are no biggies releasing this weekend (17-19 October). Diwali is all set to witness a string of releases including Vijay's "Kaththi" and Vishal's "Poojai." A few other-language films will also be hitting theatres during the festival period.
