Federer moves to second behind Djokovic in men's tennis rankings

Novak Djokovic retained top spot but Roger Federer has closed the gap in a move to second place in the ATP men's tennis rankings released Monday.

Djokovic was beaten by Federer in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters, which the Swiss went on to win Sunday.

The Serb has slipped to 11,510 points, while Federer has improved to 9,080, moving above Rafael Nadal in the rankings.

US Open winner Marin Cilic of Croatia has meanwhile moved up one place to eighth, swapping places with Canada's Milos Raonic.
