HC helps man get govt job six years after father's death
MADURAI: A 22-year-old youth namely R Arulraj of Karur's Kadavur taluk will get a government job soon on compassionate ground following an order of the Madras high court Madurai bench.
Six years ago, the youth's mother had submitted an application on May 25, 2008 after her husband Ramasamy, who was working in the revenue department died in harness on January 6, 2008.
But, the authorities rejected the application stating that the boy was not a major.
After becoming a major, the boy applied for the same on December 27, 2010, which too was rejected by the authorities regarding which, they passed orders in October 2011 and November 2013.
Aggrieved over it, Arulraj knocked on the doors of justice in the beginning of this year.
After several hearings, the matter came up before justice K K Sasidharan, who passed an order setting aside the orders denying him job on compassionate grounds and directing the Karur district collector to consider the man's request.
The collector is directed to consider the petitioner's application for compassionate appointment afresh on merits and as per law, the judge said.
"The collector appears to have ignored the ground reality. It is the usual practice of the authorities to reject the application on various grounds, like marital status of the applicant, age, etc," the judge said.
The judge said the authorities were not concerned about their delay in considering the application for compassionate appointment.
"The subject case very clearly indicates the manner in which application for compassionate appointment was considered by the collector. In any case, the collector was not correct in rejecting the petitioner's application for compassionate appointment after considerable period. I am, therefore, of the view that the matter requires consideration afresh," the judge said.
