Two absconding accused in the case of the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary E. Manoj surrendered before the Additional Sessions Court at Thalassery on Monday. The court remanded them in judicial custody.
Nambiti Jithin alias Jithesh and Sujith alias Achar Sujith, both Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers hailing from Ukkasmotta, near Kathirur, were in the list of three absconding accused submitted by the Crime Branch investigating team before the court on September 30.
Police sources said Jithin and Sujith were directly involved in the attack that killed Manoj near Kathirur on September 1. They would be secured in police custody after conducting an identification parade, the sources said.
In another development, the investigating team identified the names of four more accused in the case. Their names were submitted before the court. They are CPI(M) workers Rinish alias Thacharath Riju, Shinil from Tholambra, P. Bijesh alias Biju and A.K. Krishnan. They were directly involved in the attack and had been absconding since the murder.
With the surrender of the two, now there are five accused in custody, including CPI(M) worker K. Vikraman, CPI(M) former Malur branch secretary K.T. Prabhakaran and CPI(M) Patyam branch committee member Chapra Prakashan. While Vikraman and Prakashan were among those directly involved in the attack, according to the investigating team, Prakashan was arrested for allegedly harbouring Vikraman.
The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been invoked against all the accused in the murder case.
