Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah who is also the Health Minister warned the doctors to perform or quit their jobs and go for private service. He was at the district headquarters on Monday and inspected the services being extended at the hospital.

He was serious with the doctors when he came to know that a pregnant woman was not examined properly at the maternity outpatient ward and wondered what the doctors were doing. “Why should we be here if we are unable to extend required services to the needy? You are free to quit and join private service if you feel that you can earn more there?” he told the doctors. He was also unhappy with pathetic condition of another ward.

Mr. Rajaiah held a review meeting with the senior officials of the hospital for about an hour and interacted with them on various issues.

Later speaking to reporters, Mr. Rajaiah said that there was an urgent need to upgrade the district hospital to 500-bed from the existing 250-bed as the patient rush increased considerably. While the outpatient number has been touching even 1,500 in season per day, the deliveries taking place at the hospital have crossed more than 450 stressing the need of up-gradation of the hospital, he added.

Informing that there were 22 vacancies for doctors in the district, the Health Minister said that they would be filled through DSC shortly and the district hospital needs to fill six doctor posts. He also informed that specialists would be appointed in the district hospital as 80 per cent of the operations for the patients from the district were being performed in Hyderabad due to lack of experts. Stating that the hospital has Rs. 33 lakh , he said that the amount could be used for various requirements after seeking permission from the government.

Asked about proposed medical college at the district headquarters, he said that the issue was brought to the notice of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and he would take a decision soon. Mr. Rajaiah was accompanied by local legislator Ch. Prabhakar, ZP chairperson A. Rajamani and TRS district president R. Satyanarayana and others.
