JAIPUR: It was a celebration that would have put India's jig after the World Cup victory in shade. At 5.30 pm, when
Amin Pathan was formally allowed to take charge of
Rajasthan Cricket Association, his supporters broke out in a frenzied festivity.
"We respect the law and wanted peace to prevail and that's why we waited for the green light from the authority before taking charge," Pathan said, flashing a huge smile and the victory sign.
Indeed, he had to wait for quite some time. After presenting the documents in his support to Jyotinagar Police Station, under whose jurisdiction falls Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the registered office of the RCA, Pathan and his men fetched up by 3.30pm. They patient ly waited for two hours as the police verified the documents before allowing them to occupy the office.
"We have verified the documents presented to us," the SHO of Jyotinagar Police Station confirmed to TOI.He and almost the entire staff of the police station were present at the RCA office, anticipating violence in case
Lalit Modi loyalists too landed up.
The "ousted" secretary,
Sumendra Tiwary, a hardcore Modi loyalist, had presented his case at the police station too earlier in the morning, but had failed to produce the numbers. In fact, Pathan and Tiwary had come face-to-face at the police station, leading to some dramatic moments. "We have the numbers," Pathan declared triumphantly. "All 23 district cricket association secretaries, who have supported us, are here with me."
