Punished by PGVCL over attack, Vekri village in dark

UPDATE: After Sarpanch’s written assurance that such incident will not repeat in future, PGVCL has restored power supply to Vekri.

Vekri village in Manavadar belt of Junagadh district is facing dark for last three days due to punishment slapped by Pashchim Gujarat Vij Company Limited(PGVCL).

On Friday, PGVCL team was attacked in Vekri by over two dozen villagers. PGVCL team had arrived there to check the meters and suspected illegal power connections. The team was attacked with stone and PGVCL vehicles were damaged.

Later when police arrived in village, the villagers again started attack and damaged police vehicles too.

Police booked 25 persons including local Sarpanch for violence.

Meanwhile, PGVCL has cut power supply to this village ever since the day of attack. For last three days, the village has been slapped punishment of no power supply.

Local Congress MLA Jawahar Chavda visited the village in support of villagers and told media persons that just because of two dozen odd elements, entire village must not be punished and power supply must be resumed.

On the other hand, PGVCL officials are demanding undertaking from villagers that PGVCL team will not be attacked and allowed to check power connections and meters thoroughly without any obstruction in future.

Meetings between the villagers and PGVCL are going on. Meanwhile due to power cut, all villagers including children and women are in problem. Some of them are hospitalized through 108 ambulance due to complain pertaining to heat.
