A 21-year-old man was hacked to death by an armed gang in Vyasarpadi on Saturday night. The suspects were hunting for the victim’s friend following a long-standing row with him but murdered the youth as they were unable to find their ‘target’. The MKB Nagar police said Moham-med Sharif of Devar Nagar 9 Street was a sales exec-utive at a two-wheeler showroom in Tondiarpet. The murder took place around 10.30 p.m. on Satur-day when he left home after dinner to meet some friends. “The gang, led by local history-sheeter Silambara-san alias Venkatesan, intercepted Sharif a few streets away from his house and questioned him about his friend Dheena. When Sharif refused to divulge Dheena’s location, the gang attacked Sharif, killing him on the spot,” said an investigating officer.
