DC absent in Kokrajhar despite red alert
Kokrajhar: The absence of a deputy commissioner (DC) at Kokrajhar since last month has surprised many people of the district. The district is being run without a DC since September 17 when former Kokrajhar DC Nithin Khade was transferred to Golaghat.
This is happening at a time when the state home department has issued a red alert in some districts following a threat from al-Qaida and NDFB (S).
Kokrajhar is considered to be the most vulnerable district for al-Qaida and NDFB (S) threats but despite these facts, the district has no full time DC. It is being run by ADC (in-charge).
Officials here said the new DC is likely to be appointed soon.
General secretary of the Kokrajhar district unit of AASU Nabajyoti Rai expressed surprise at the lack of security arrangements in the district even after the state home department issued the high alert. He said the absence of the DC in this sensitive district was a matter of surprise and the state government should own up responsibility if any untoward incident takes place in the district.
