CHANDIGARH: INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala is a master at using adverse situations for his gain. Just before surrendering at Tihar Jail on Saturday after the high court cancelled his bail, Chautala gave an 80-second emotional speech to garner votes. The speech was quickly uploaded to WhatsApp and various social networking sites.
The 79-year-old Chautala used a poetic combination of Hindi and Urdu to reach out to voters.

"Lo phir se band chale hain farz ki zanziron mein, ek katra aansu nahin girega chahe dekh lena tasviron mein. Garib ke chulhe ki roti ki khatir, khud ko hamne hai jala diya, aur hamein hai khushi yahi ki dushman ki jadon ko hila diya (I am again being imprisoned for fulfilling my duties, but would not cry for a moment. To ensure bread for the poor, I have burnt myself but I am happy to see that my enemies have been wiped off)," he said.
PTI adds:
CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday unleashed verbal barbs at the jailed INLD chief. Hooda said: "How can this man dream of becoming the CM when he is not even eligible under law to contest the election for a legislator?" "If he wants to fulfil his wish to be CM again, I suggest he hold an election among prisoners in (Tihar) jail. He can also form his cabinet in jail and run his government," he mocked.
