Vizianagaram also bears brunt

Power supply disconnected, phones go mute
Vizianagargam: The Hudhud cyclone created a havoc in Vizianagaram district. Right from Saturday midnight, heavy winds and downpour started. The authorities had warned the public and fishermen to take safety measures. The authorities had established call centres and warning centres in all mandal centres and at revenue divisional offices. But the situation on Sunday morning totally changed. Heavy winds had uprooted uncountable trees in the district. As a precautionary measure, the Transco has disconnected the power supply and the all communication systems collapsed.
In all, 10 fishing boats were washed away in Pusapatirega mandal. Around 40,000 people were shifted to the rehabitation centres in Pusapatirega and Bhogapuram mandals. Tippalavalasa, Chintapalli, Chepalakancheru villages were badly affected and the authorities had provided food for those people.
The public are frightened with the condition and they spent all the day at home by knowing the situation through mobiles. But after 1 pm all the private telephone networks had gone mum as the telephone towers were damaged. Though the government had deployed rescue teams, the situation does not permit them to do their job.
Only BSNL network is working in some areas as the other networks also went mum. A large number of electric polls were uprooted. Low-lying areas in Bobbili, Parvathipuram Salur and S.kota were submerged.
