MUMBAI: The family of a 39-year-old Goregaon resident has accused a Juhu hospital of negligence after he died following a fistula operation. They alleged that he was given a general anaesthetic when such surgeries are “usually performed” under a local anaesthetic. The deceased, Santosh Srivastav, was admitted to hospital on Friday. A relative said, “We are sure he died of an anaesthetic overdose.During a check-up, a nurse found that his pulse had stopped.”
The family has lodged a police complaint of negligence. The hospital refuted the charge. “The procedure was explained to the patient and consent taken. The patient asked for general anesthesia and it is on record,” said a hospital administrator, adding that post-surgery, the patient gained consciousness. “It was an unfortunate event of cardiac arrest,” he added.
