PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Muhammad Zahid Durrani said he will not hesitate to tender his resignation if the provincial government fails to address the concerns of its party workers.

Speaking to The Express Tribune on Sunday, Durrani – who was elected from PK-24, Mardan II – raised concerns over the government’s attitude towards running the province. According to the PTI MPA, the provincial government is ignoring the needs of its lawmakers and serving the interests of opposition benches by granting them excessive funds.

Durrani admitted he lost trust in the provincial government as it had repeatedly failed to follow the party’s manifesto.

“During his oath-taking ceremony, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said every single PTI elected representative will be like the chief minister of his or her constituency,” said Durrani. “However, what we see on ground is completely different from what he said.” The MPA added he has been unable to develop his constituency in the way he had promised his voters.

However, Durrani simultaneously pledged allegiance to PTI Chairperson Imran Khan and said he will never let him down.

“I started my political career with the PTI and it will end with PTI. But we will have to take a stand if our concerns are not addressed,” he added.

The PTI government has found itself in deep water with MPAs expressing reservations about the party’s failure to deliver promises or end corruption.

On September 26, PTI MPA Javed Naseem urged Khattak to resign for failing to root out corruption and held a sit-in against the presence of corrupt elements in the provincial cabinet. A show-cause notice was issued to Naseem for issuing statements against party leaders.
