Osteoarthritis is on the rise across the globe and joint replacement surgery facility is available in Kadapa, Joint Replacement Surgeon C. Vidyasagar Reddy said on Sunday.

Degeneration of calcium in bones and marrow in bones, friction between osteophytes, bony projections that develop with degeneration of cartilage in bones cause severe joint pains among osteoarthritis patients, Dr. Vidyasagar Reddy said in an awareness camp on prevention of osteoarthritis in Vidyasagar Joint Replacement and Diabetes Hospital at Dwarakanagar here on the World Arthritis Day. Early detection and following the doctors’ advice would avert the need for joint replacement surgery, he said.

Yoga exponent R. Ranganath Reddy said cases of arthritis were on the rise and those severely affected could undergo joint replacement surgery without any fear. Intake of calcium-rich products, exposure to sunlight in the morning and evening, physical exercise and reducing stress would avert arthritis, Dr. Ranganath Reddy said.

Later, arthritis patients were examined in a free medical camp at the hospital. Diabetologist N. Srilakshmi also participated.
