Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday and enquired about the situation in the State after cyclone Hudhud crossed the Visakhapatnam coast.
Mr. Naidu told reporters that the Prime Minister had given an assurance to extend all possible help to the State. “The cyclonic storm has just crossed and we have to assess the damage to launch rescue and relief operations,” Mr. Naidu told the Prime Minister.
He told Mr. Modi that he was thankful to the Centre for coming forward to help the State. Mr. Naidu informed Mr. Modi that he would leave for Visakhapatnam on Sunday evening and camp there to supervise rescue and relief measures.
Mr. Naidu and the Chief Secretary, I.Y. R. Krishna Rao arrived at Secretariat in the morning itself and kept monitoring the situation.
Mr. Rao said three persons were killed, one in wall collapse in Anakapalli and two others when trees fell on them in Srikakulam. Six persons who were caught in the swollen Nagavalli river were being rescued by a NDRF team, he added.
