Nandan was abuzz with folk music on Thursday evening, when a 90 minute documentary Khyapar Mon Brindaban — a journey into Khyapasphere, was screened as a tribute to Gour Khyapa, who passed away on January 23, 2012.
The packed-to-capacity theatre saw the renowned baul come alive on the big screen. Director LadlyMukhopadhyay said, “The documentary comprises snippets from interviews with Gour which lasted over 12 years.
I have 300 hours of footage of which I have retained only 1.5 hours."
The film begins with Gour singing Baulhowamukherkothanoy, followed by many more live performances with his close associates. He also talks about his association with GautamChattopadhyay and his liking for Bob Marley, Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan. “Gour was a baul maestro who redefined the word Khyapa. All I have done is capture as many moments as possible," the director added. Gabu, who was seen interacting with Ladly after the screening, said, “The film has rightly captured his essence. People who did not know Gour will get to know him through this film."
