Authorities inspect Puducherry firecracker unit day after explosion

A day after an explosion at a fire cracker unit claimed a passerby’s life at Manaveli, officials of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) in Chennai on Saturday visited the accident spot and conducted an investigation.

D Ameer Basha (40) of Odai Street was grievously injured when bricks and debris hit him after the blast.

Passersby informed the police and though Basha was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, he was declared brought dead by doctors.

Following the incident, the authorities have suspended the licence of the unit and have been conducting investigation into the case.

The police are on the lookout for the owner of fireworks unit.

The authorities of the PESO collected details to ascertain whether there was any violation on the premises.
