The South municipal corporation has suspended four officials including a sanitary inspector, for their alleged “inefficiency” in carrying out sanitation works under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The action was taken after Additional Commissioner D N Singh inspected the Najafgarh zone and found garbage heaps in several places. “The officials were given warnings but the area was not cleaned properly,” officials said.
Suspended officials include, Mahender Yadav (sanitary inspector), Rajesh Saran (assistant SI), Jay Singh (sanitary guard) and Harish Kishan (sanitary guard). Officials said only 20 per cent of the staff was found to be working despite orders to ensure full strength of safai karamcharis.
Deputy Mayor Praveen Rana, Leader of Opposition Farhad Suri and Chairman Central Zone Indu also had inspected different areas under the south civic body and found “insanitary” conditions, including heaps of garbage in various places.
