KARACHI: Many celebrities took to their Facebook and Twitter accounts to congratulate Malala Yousafzai, who became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in fighting for girls' education in Pakistan.
Pop star Beyonce praised Malala on Facebook, by putting up a picture of her with the caption "Congratulations Malala on winning the Nobel Peace Prize! #DayoftheGirl".
Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon also took to Twitter and Instagram to congratulate her.
Hours after Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize, Witherspoon was honoured at Variety's Power of Women luncheon for her work with the Malala Fund, the young activist's organisation for girls education, eonline.com reported.
It was Witherspoon's daughter Ava who introduced her to Malala's story.
"Ava was the first person who told me about Malala, about how violently she was treated, how great that she recovered and how extraordinarily she stood up within her country against an entire culture of oppression," Witherspoon said at the gala at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in California.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell also took to Twitter to write a heartfelt message for Malala, except for the fact that she referred to her as "malaria" in her tweet.

Bollywood veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan also took sometime out from his birthday celebrations on Saturday and dedicated a tweet to Malala.
