Millie was awarded the Loretta Dorman Medal for 2014 after she was announced as the winner of the Sydney Women’s Hockey League’s Best and Fairest for Metro League First Division.
She was presented with her award by former Hockeyroo Loretta Dorman, a member of the first two women’s teams to represent Australia at the Olympics in 1984 and 1988.
“It was a real honour to be judged the best and fairest among so many good players and it was an extra special occasion when I received the medal from Loretta (Dorman) who is such an icon in women’s hockey,” Millie said.
Millie played for Western Districts in the Sydney League with the team being coached by Lithgow’s Wally Gaynor.
Along with playing in Sydney, Millie was a key member of the Zig Zag Premier League side.
It has been another stellar year for Millie who represented NSW in the under 18 indoor side that took gold in the championships and in the under 18 field side that finished with a silver medal.
She also co-captained the under 18 Lithgow side that took out the state championship and was a member of the Lithgow Open side that finished with a silver medal in second division at the open state championships.
Following the championships, her form was such that she was selected in the 2015 under 21 state squad.
While at school at La Salle Academy, Millie was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin award named after the founder of the modern Olympic Games.
The Pierre de Coubertin Award recognises students who demonstrate academic excellence and sporting prowess while exemplifying the Olympic values.
Millie has also trained all year with the Hockey NSW high performance AAP squad, coached locally by the Panthers’ Ron Charlton.
“I would like to thank both Ron and Wally for their coaching and assistance throughout the year, to all my teammates and to my parents Graeme and Lynne.”
