Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited Chandoli village in Alwar Friday to see the working of a ‘cyber village’. Zuckerberg arrived in a helicopter at around 2.15pm and spent 45 minutes interacting with villagers about the reach and impact of the cyber center in the village.
Locals said that Zuckerberg asked them how the cyber village helped in bringing internet connectivity to the area. He was accompanied by American journalists and officials of the Center’s ‘cyber village project’.

“India is a great country with huge potential. It is heartening to know that villagers too are moving towards being connected to the internet. Facebook should not be treated as a medium for sensational news or information. It is a social medium for personal interaction and that is how it should continue to be”, said Zuckerberg, who is on a two-day tour of the country.
Zuckerberg’s visit was kept confidential by the state government for security reasons, officials said and the location was included in Zuckerberg’s itinerary as Alwar is close to the national capital.
Earlier this year, a ‘cyber village’ in Chandoli, that has a sizeable Meo Muslim population, was inaugurated.
