As a schoolboy Jaggi had fallen in love with horses on his uncle's farm at Amritsar, and he soon settled on a jockey's career to live out his passion.

After a stint under English trainer Harvey Leader in the early 1960's, Jaggi moved back to India to ride at Chennai (then Madras) & Ooty with notable successes which included winning the prestigious Nilgiris Gold Cup three times before shifting track to become a horse trainer due to issues related to rising weight.

Pesi Shroff who rode Storm Again to Derby victory for Dhariwal told mid-day, "Jaggi was unique in his own way, and in his passing, racing has lost a genuine horse lover who was witness to its halcyon days. He was a great entertainer too."
