J. Rakesh, sub-inspector, Pothencode, suffered head injuries while attempting to pacify clashing CPI(M), RSS activists at Pothencode late Thursday.
Nearly 100 activists were involved in the clash which followed a CPI(M) protest march in the area. Mr. Rakesh was reportedly struck on the head with a rod when he was trying to bring the situation under control.
He was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), where his condition is stated to be stable. A large posse of policemen was posted at the spot. The situation was slowly returning to normal when reports last came in. The Bharatiya Janata Party has declared a hartal at Pothencode.
Bar employee deadAn employee of a bar hotel at Mettukada near Thampanoor, which was shut down recently, was found hanging in a room attached to the hotel on Wednesday night. The police said Varghese, 54, a resident of Chalakudy, had been working in the bar for over two decades and was reportedly upset after the bar was shut down, posing a threat to his livelihood. He was found hanging by his roommates, also employees of the same hotel. The body was shifted to the MCH morgue. The Thampanoor police have registered a case.
Body foundThe body of Nisha, 33, a housewife who went missing on October 3 from her home at Kollampuzha near Kadakavoor, was found in a decomposed state on Wednesday night in the Kollampuzha river. The police said Nisha had reportedly left the house on October 3 after an argument with her husband over her mortgaging her gold ornaments. She had returned the gold to her husband, Manoj Kumar, who works in the Middle East, and left the house. Her body was found floating in the river by local people late Wednesday.
The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy at the MCH here on Thursday. The Kadakkavoor police have registered a case.
