Gala engineering name back under British ownership

A gala name in Sheffield engineering is back under British ownership four years after it was acquired by an Indian business following a heralded turnaround by Endless.

DavyMarkham is a heavy-engineering business involved in the design, manufacture, machining and fabrication of large metal structures. The name has a 180-year history in Sheffield engineering.

According to a report in the Telegraph, the business has been bought from Indian engineering and construction giant IVRCL by Hughes Armstrong, an investment firm focused on the manufacturing sector.

Stephen Lord, chief executive of Hughes Armstrong, told the Telegraph: "DavyMarkham is a British heritage brand but it had been left out in the cold by its parent company. We saw the opportunity to return this manufacturing business to its former glory."

In February 2010, former owner Endless sold its investment in DavyMarkham to IVRCL following a turnaround led by Kevin Parkin and Duncan Hay.
