Students of the Veterinary College of Hassan have decided to launch an indefinite protest on Friday urging the State government and the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University to initiate prompt efforts for getting recognition from the Veterinary Council of India for the college.
The college, which was started in 2007, has not yet got the VCI recognition, which would render degree obtained through the college invalid, said the students.
An inspection team from the VCI inspected the college in July this year. It was expected that the VCI would subsequently accord recognition.
However, it had sought further clarifications on certain matters from the university. Yogish, student, told The Hindu on Thursday that last year, the students had launched an indefinite agitation and withdrew it on the assurance of the government and the university that the issues related to infrastructure and faculty recruitment, which were necessary to get the VCI recognition, would be settled in a year. “But, the college has not got VCI recognition. No student passing out from this college has got registration number from the Karnataka Veterinary Council, which is necessary to do practice in the State. We are launching an indefinite protest,” he said.
“We want the university and the government to respond to the clarifications sought by the VCI immediately and get the recognition,” he said.
H.N. Narasimhamurthy, Dean of the college, said that the university had already responded to the clarifications sought by the VCI. “Students need not worry. The VCI is following the processes required to grant the recognition. We are hopeful of getting it soon. Moreover, the government has taken care of the students who had passed out of the college in the past,” he said.
