Fabio Caruana touches Kasparov's Elo peak of 2851

PUNE: Fabiao Caruana of Italy has equalled Garry Kasparov's Elo peak of 2851 in live rating calculations at the Russian's birthplace Baku (Azerbaijan).
Caruana punished Peter Svidler, who was awarded the wild card for the World Candidates meet this year despite being older and inferior in rating than Caruana, in the sixth round of Fide Grand Prix on Wednesday.
The Italian tallied 4.5 points to become the sole leader of the 12-player meet at the Azerbaijan capital.
Caruana is just 12 Elo points behind world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen (Elo 2863). The world champion from Norway will be challenged by V Anand of India in a rematch in Sochi from November 8.
