9 get life imprisonment in Shaheed Bhava murder case

They were sentenced under section 302 of IPC as the murder was not the rarest of rare
Kozhikode: Nine persons who were found guilty of the murder of Shaheed Bhava at Kodiyathur in the district in November 2011 were awarded life imprisonment by the special additional district and sessions’ court (Marad cases) on Thursday.
Judge S. Krishnakumar also imposed a fine of ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 on each of them and in default an additional jail term of six months to one year.
An amount of Rs 2 lakh from the fine should be given to the father of Shaheed Bhava. The court had found nine of the 15 accused guilty on Wednesday in the first-ever moral policing murder case in the state.
They were sentenced under section 302 of IPC as the murder was not the rarest of rare. The judge also considered the age of the accused and the plight of their dependants.
The convicted are first accused Kollalathl Abdul Rahman alias Cheriyappu, 52, of Kodiyathur, Palakkadan Abdul Karim, 45, Kottakkuzhiyil Abdul Naser, 31, aka auto Naser, Maliyekkal Fayas, 28, Kalathingal Najid, 22, Pathenkadavu Rashid, 22, Ellangal Hijas Rahman, 23, Palakkadan Muhammed Jamsheer, 25, and Kolayil Shahul Hameed, 29.
