City school athletes win laurels at inter-state meet

THANE: It was raining medals for the boys from Lok Puram Public School (LPPS) at the CBSE Cluster IX Athletic Meet held at Surat. As many as 78 schools from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu and Goa participated in the tournament.
The young athletes from LPPS bagged 24 medals in the under-14 and under-16 categories, which include six gold, six silver and 12 bronze.Five of the students have been nominated for the CBSE nationals that will be held at Mehsana, in Gujarat, during December.
Those who got a place in the nationals include Diptayan Mukherjee, Mahalakshmi V, Sanjana More, Devaki Gokhale and Vaishnavi Asnare. The boys and girls relay team too gave their best performance.
LPPS coach Rakesh Yadav was content with the victory. ‘‘Our students proved their mettle and won many medals,’’ he said.
Diptayan Mukherjee won the individual championship crown in the under-16 group. He also won a gold 400m and two silver medals in the 200m and 4x400m relay. Other gold medalists were Mahalakshmi, Sanjana, Vaishnavi, Devaki and Anushka Narkhade in the under-14 girl’s group.
Among the silver medalists were, Ishan Apte, Parth Kharge, Nishant Hinge and Abhinav Ganguly. Other winners were Mahalakshmi (bronze), Kareena Purohit (3 bronze), Simran Vaishya (2 bronze), Sidhi Dubey (2 bronze), Sonal Ranasingh (2 bronze) and Akanksha Chandan (2 bronze).
