Gujaratis take the lead on prime time TV

While shows based in Gujarat and revolving around Gujarati families have been ruling the small screen and generating impressive TRPs for a long time now, young actors from Gujarat are also making their presence on prime time TV. After playing cameos, telly’s new brigade from Gujarat are now playing starring roles in their current outings.

While shows based in Gujarat and revolving around Gujarati families have been ruling the small screen and generating impressive TRPs for a long time now, young actors from Gujarat are also making their presence on prime time TV. After playing cameos, telly’s new brigade from Gujarat are now playing starring roles in their current outings.
Aneri Vajani Hometown: Navsari Aneri started off her showbiz career in a small role in the dark thriller Kaali – Ek Punar Avtaar.
But it was her stint in the youth show Crazy Stupid Ishq as the rich brat Shanaya that got her the max eyeballs. In the just launched Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, Aneri plays the role of the chirpy, tomboyish Nisha who is the epicentre of her family.

Helly Shah Hometown: Ahmedabad Helly Shah’s acting career started when she was in school. After starring in Gulaal and Alaxmi — Humari Super Bahoo, Helly’s now essaying the role of the funloving Aashi in Khushiyon Ki Gullak Aashi.

Vrushika Mehta Hometown: Ahmedabad She replaced Sneha Kapoor as the spunky Sharon in Dil Dosti Dance, and since then, there’s been no looking back for Vrushika. A talented dancer Vrushika says, “I was born in Ahmedabad but brought up in Mumbai. I am very happy that people have loved me as Sharon.”

Disha Savla Hometown: Kutch As the nagging wife Bobby in Neeli Chhatri Wale, Disha Savla has made quite an impression, and shares screen space with Yashpal Sharma. The actress who hails from Kutch has been part of a number of plays in Mumbai and has also done a Gujarati show on TV. Making her debut on Hindi TV, she says, “The Gujarati show has prepared me for taking this next step. It is a very different concept so I hope this show clicks with the audience.”


Karan Suchak Hometown: Ahmedabad After playing character roles in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Savitri and Pavitra Rishta, Karan shot to fame as Dhrishtadyumna in Mahabharat. Now playing Raja Vikramaditya in Singhasan Battisi, Karan says, “I was born in Ahmedabad and I am a Gujarati. It’s only been a few months for me in this industry and it has been a busy journey, I hope it remains that way.”

Hometown: Ahmedabad Born and brought up in Ahmedabad, Dharti moved to Mumbai to pursue her dream of acting. After doing character roles in Love Marriage Ya Arrange Marriage and Jodha Akbar, she is now playing the role of the optimistic Mahi in Mahisagar. She says, “I’ve always wanted to become an actor. I enjoy singing and dancing and this role is like a dream come true for me.”

Vijayendra Kumeria Hometown: Ahmedabad Vijayendra Kumeria gave up a lucrative career in civil aviation and chose to follow his heart when he became an actor. After a slew of character roles in Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara, Housewife Hai Sab Janti Hai and Tumhari Paakhi, Vijay’s bagged his first lead role as the suave Rajat Sareen in Shastri Sisters.
