Five years after patient died, doctor booked for negligence
BHOPAL: City-based medical practitioner Dr SC Dubey was booked for negligence that triggered death of a patient in 2009 at Chirayu hospital. What’s shocking was that it took five years for police to register a FIR against him on Wednesday.
The case was registered at Talaiya police station. Dr Dubey was charged with causing death by rash or negligent act under Section 304 (A) of IPC.
Police said the doctor will be arrested soon.
This comes a day after an elderly man died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection at Sanjeevini Hospital near Tajul Masajid area, but police are yet to act. More than six city doctors have been booked in the past for causing death to patients due to negligence or unnecessary treatment to force patients’ kin to foot a fat bill.
In the 2009 case in which an FIR was lodged on Wednesday, Brij Mohan, 48, resident of Kala Mahal in Sironj, was under Dr Dubey’s treatment for an ENT-related problem, but died after surgery. Relatives alleged negligence on part of the doctor and reported the matter to police.
Autopsy report stated he died of asphyxia or suffocation after blood seeped into his trachea and bronchioles and accumulated in his nasal cavity. Police referred the matter to MP Medical Council to understand technicality of the case. After the council underlined negligence of doctor could be the reason for patient’s death, police registered an FIR.
But Sections under which FIR was lodged is bailable, which means the doctor would get bail. On why it took so long to lodge a case, police said they have to follow a lengthy procedure, including taking advice of medical experts before booking a doctor. Even doctors booked in past either managed to get bail or the matter is pending due to procedural delays.
