GUWAHATI: The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS)has said it will launch a padayatra to lower Assam this month to assess the problems faced by people there. The KMSS plans to launch an agitation to solve the issues after with the people.
“Lower Assam is utterly neglected. From floods to erosion, the lower Assam districts are lagging behind both economically and politically.
“The politicians from lower Assam, too, have failed to find a solution.
Our padayatra is aimed at finding a way,” said KMSS general secretary Kamal Medhi.
He added that the march will start from here on October 20 and will take three months. Medhi added that padayatra will move through Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Nalbari, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara districts before culminating in Guwahati.
About 200 KMSS activists are expected to take part in the march. He said the organization will mobilize the people of lower Assam to create awareness about the adverse impact of hydel projects coming up in neighbouring Bhutan.
