SURAT: Police have booked two traders for allegedly cheating 21 textile weavers and a unit owner of Rs 4.21 crore.
The accused, Vishal alias Pintu Chamdiya and his brother Vivek, purchased textile products from the unit owners during July to September 2014 and did not make payment for the products purchased.
Chandu Patel, a resident of Udhna Road, lodged the complaint on behalf of other victims.
Investigation revealed that Chamdiya brothers were running their shop Mango Fashion in Rathi Palace. They started purchasing textile raw material on credit and sold it to their clients. However, they did not make payment to the raw material suppliers.
They disappeared from the market after pressure for payment began to mount.
It is a business tradition in the textile market to offer two to three months credit considering the trader's reputation.
