In a bid to restore the confidence among local people about National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant at Kudgi, which has seen several protests, the district administration has constituted a Village Development Advisory Committee (VDAC) to provide better facilities for villages located close to the plant.
Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep says that the committee being formed, will comprise Assistant Commissioner, Tehsildar of Basavanabagewadi, other officials and local elected representatives.
“The committee would be constituted within a week which would make efforts to rebuild confidence of the local people in the project which is going to provide significant quantum of electricity to the district and the State,” he said.
He said that the committee would ensure effective utilization of funds reserved by the NTPC for providing better facilities to the villages located close to the plant.
In order to develop villages such as Kudgi, Masuti, Telgi and Golasangi, the NTPC, for 2014-15, has earmarked Rs. 43.65 crore, of which Rs. 17 crore had been spent.
The rest of the funds would be used as per the needs of the villagers by taking their suggestions and consent which would help in preparing better plans for these villages, Mr. Randeep said.
“The local elected representatives and the villagers would be asked to prepare the list of programmes such as construction of toilets, roads, community halls and school buildings. Based on the list, the projects would be implemented,” he said.
