Cash and ‘Ajit Pawar clothes’ seized, NCP says all legit

Later in the day, the NCP issued a statement that the party had given Ajit Pawar Rs 8 lakh for campaign expenses.

Police seized Rs 4.75 in cash from an NCP candidate’s vehicle in Parbhani, reportedly along with Ajit Pawar’s clothes and visiting cards.

The NCP conceded the money had been sourced from Pawar but stressed that it could provide the expenditure details.

Police said that at 10.30 am, they and election officials stopped an SUV, a campaign vehicle for the NCP’s Jintur candidate Vijay Bhambale, and found the cash in bags.

The driver, Krishna Hazare, reportedly told the team that he was transporting the bags, which belonged to Pawar and his PA.  “In one bag, police found Rs 4 lakh cash, Pawar’s visiting cards and his clothes. From another bag, which according to the driver belonged to Pawar’s PA, police recovered Rs 75,000.

The amount was seized and we have sought an explanation from the car owner,” said a Parbhani police  officer.

Later in the day, the NCP issued a statement that the party had given Ajit Pawar Rs 8 lakh for campaign expenses.  “The money seized by police came from this allotment, and the party can show details about the money given to and spent by Pawar from this sum,” the statement read.
