Fazilka/Muktsar: In a sensational case of pilfering money from ATMs to finance a Punjabi movie, Fazilka police on Friday claimed to have arrested 4 persons for allegedly stealing nearly Rs 1.15 crore. Three of the arrested accused were working as money loaders with a Chennai-based company and managed to siphon money from ATMs of 7 nationalized banks.
The police also recovered Rs 43 lakh in cash and two vehicles from them. Informing about the arrests, Fazilka senior superintendent of police Swapan Sharma said all banks in Fazilka and Muktsar districts had a contract with ISSDB, a Chennai-based company to load their ATMs. "Three employees of the company, Jagsir Singh, a resident of Khui Khera village in Fazilka, Mukesh Kumar and Gurcharan Singh, both residents Khema Khera village of Muktsar, were assigned the job to load the ATMs in the area. The trio was reportedly lured by Rupinder and Paviter Deol, residents of Balmgarh village of Muktsar, who asked them to invest some money to finance a Punjabi movie. Both also promised to return double the amount invested by the three," said SSP Sharma.
Enticed by the offer, the trio reportedly stole Rs 1 crore from different ATMs. Sharma said, "They also managed to clear the audit of banks by rotating cash from other ATMs. The entire matter came to light only when a team of ISSDB arrived here to assist the police. On the statement of Jasbir Singh, an official of the company, a case has been registered against 5 persons. We have arrested 4 persons while Jagsir Singh is on the run."
