GUWAHATI: Four militants of
National Democratic Front of Bodoland’s Songbijit faction (NDFB-S) and a Rabha
National Liberation Army (RNLA) rebel were arrested in Udalguri district on Monday night in a joint operation by Army and
Assam Police. The militants were arrested from Murabari village under
Harisinga police station.
“NDFB-S and Rabha outfits have joined hands to procure firearms and weapons from across the border. While the Rabha outfit shares close ties with Ulfa (Independent), it is also working as a gunrunner for Bodo ultras,” said a
senior police officer.
A country-made revolver, two rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, a khukri, Rs 36,500 in cash, four mobile handsets, 9 SIM cards and four memory cards were found on them. “The ultras were engaged in extortion in the Kalaigaon, Harisinga and Khairabari areas of Udalguri and the Goreswar area of neighbouring Baksa district,” the
officer said. The NDFB rebels have been identified as Ringsar Daimary, Babul Rabha, Bisan Daimary and Jisoya Khaklary, while the RNLA militant has been identified as
Paneswar Rabha.
